Pranay took an unconventional path towards data and analytics. Although he was always fond of mathematics and statistics, he never imagined going into the world of data until very recently in his life. Pranay graduated from Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Technology, New Delhi, India with a bachelor’s degree in Information Technology in 2018. It was during his undergrad that he got to know about the growing field of data analytics. Being a huge sports fan, Pranay joined a sports website, FollowYourSport.com, as an analytics content writing intern. Intrigued by the capabilities of data analytics, Pranay organized and participated in various data related competitions during the final years of his undergrad.
To continue exploring his newfound interest, Pranay joined Mu Sigma, a data science consulting firm in Bengaluru, India after graduating in 2018. After 3 months of rigorous training on data tools like R, Python, SQL and learning how to apply machine learning on business problems, Pranay finally got a chance to work hands-on on a demand forecasting problem in a client facing role. During his time at Mu Sigma, he learned how to uncover insights from data which lead to actionable decisions and the importance of data storytelling. He believes one of the most important aspect of working in the analytics domain is to be able to convey the technical findings from data in a way that a non-technical audience would understand.
His time at Mu Sigma made him realize that he needs a good foundation of business and machine learning concepts to further advance his career. This made him pursue his master’s in business analytics at UCLA Anderson. The program gives him the opportunity to not only learn about data science tools and techniques, but also a deep insight into the role of these skills in making business decisions. Pranay really enjoyed the prescriptive analytics class and is looking forward to learning Customer and Competitive Analytics.

Samarth Raizada
Samarth loves doing two things: being creative and telling stories. After getting his bachelor’s in computer engineering from India, Samarth worked as a systems Engineer for Infosys, enabling a large Australian Bank to take off a billion-dollar digital overhaul of its existing legacy system. He was also among the top 2% of the candidates selected for writing Indian Civil Services examination. This eclectic knowledge continues to help him across diverse domains where data science has today become a common denominator. His four years of experience working with high volume, high velocity data for both public sector clients and large private corporations has helped him to uniquely understand how data is shaping the world of today.
After helping build data-centric culture for Transcend Infosystems, Samarth decided to move into cutting-edge Analytics, which brought him to UCLA Anderson where he is learning real time applications of Customer, Competitive and Operational Analytics and applying those to projects from companies like Microsoft. He is especially amazed at learning how customer preferences are measured and how qualitative and quantitative methods to select the best product according to those preferences are applied. The MSBA Program has also helped him connect with and learn from industry leaders. Samarth today is comfortable across the spectrum of driving change through Data Storytelling to building machine learning models that can then be measured within larger macroeconomic and microeconomic context.
But only Analytics is not what Samarth brings to the table: In his spare time, he loves picking up his electric guitar, and strumming a few chords from time to time. He is also well versed with the use of a charcoal pencil and loves to sketch. As the Vice President for Social networking and Culture, he actively works to ensure that a diverse MSBA cohort stays cohesive (,especially in times of COVID-19) through team-building exercises. And if you can’t find him, the gym would be a logical place to start!
