Hear to Include

Hear to Include is a video series produced by a UCLA Anderson student startup, Unified Stories. The purpose is simple: to provide a forum to hear real student perspectives so we may have clearer understanding of who these students are and what they represent. Hearing is the first step toward inclusion.

In partnership with UCLA Anderson and both Anderson’s Black Business Students Association (@bbsa_uclaanderson) & OUT@Anderson (@outatanderson) clubs @unified_stories invites you to join in hearing powerful stories from of several of UCLA Anderson students.

In partnership with Black Business Student Association, we are excited to share these unique experiences and empower their voices.

HEAR TO INCLUDE: BLACK HISTORY MONTH

As we strive to create the equitable, diverse, and inclusive environment everyone deserves at UCLA Anderson, we embrace each of these stories as an investment in progress.

HEAR TO INCLUDE:

Levi Kirkland (‘21)

“Given my blackness, I think that was something that was always in the back of my mind and something that I had to think about every time I stepped into one of those coffee chats and being hesitant and worried about how I would be perceived.”

HEAR TO INCLUDE:

Kwame Bonsra (‘20)

“I definitely do feel that minorities are judged more harshly by the way they present themselves.”

HEAR TO INCLUDE:

Kaylan Young (‘21)

“I have just had to put myself into situations that might not have necessarily been as comfortable.”

HEAR TO INCLUDE:

Rhian Rogan (‘20)

“We have different problems, we have different challenges to overcome.”

HEAR TO INCLUDE:

Josh Primus (‘20)

“I want to tell you about a time I experienced racism for just walking down the sidewalk.”

HEAR TO INCLUDE:

Nailah Young (‘20)

“I think about myself and my own name and it makes me wonder what opportunities I've missed out on, potentially, because of my name.”

HEAR TO INCLUDE:

Gaelen Lemelle-Brown (‘21)

“My relationship with my race and the idea of race in general has been both confusing and enlightening.”

Our student club, OUT@Anderson, partnered with students to share their voices as they speak authentically with our community.

HEAR TO INCLUDE: LGBTQ AWARENESS WEEK

"People assume that awareness week is just for people who identify as LGBTQ or just for people who are actively involved in Out and that's definitely not the case."

HEAR TO INCLUDE:

ALLYSHIP

“That's where allyship really begins, in the ability to ask questions and be curious and open to understanding what it means to be a good ally.”

HEAR TO INCLUDE:

INTERSECTIONALITY

“All of those identities create a unique experience and they create a unique experience for the way we experience oppression and the way we experience privilege.”
