UCLA vs. USC NAIOP Socal Real Estate Challenge
The Southern California Chapter of the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP-SoCal) organizes an annual real estate case challenge between SoCal business school rivals UCLA and USC. Each five-person team is asked to develop and determine the best use for an existing Southern California real estate project. Teams compete for the prestigious "Silver Shovel" award.
UT Austin Real Estate Finance Challenge
UCLA Anderson students are invited each year to compete in the University of Texas at Austin McCombs School of Business National Real Estate Challenge. This is a case-based competition where teams from top business schools present to a panel of judges from Bear Stearns, Goldman Sachs, Wells Fargo and Bank of America Securities. The Ziman Center sponsors this annual event by paying for the UCLA team's entry fee and travel expenses.
UNC Real Estate Challenge
The University of North Carolina's Real Estate Development Challenge is an annual real estate case competition hosted by the Leonard W. Wood Center for Real Estate Studies at UNC's Kenan-Flagler Business School. An invitation-only event, the Challenge convenes 16 teams from the leading MBA programs to compete. The Ziman Center sponsors this annual event by paying for the UCLA team's entry fee and travel expenses.
Pircher, Nichols & Meeks Real Estate Transactions Competition
Several teams of three to four students from the UCLA School of Law and the UCLA Anderson School of Management compete annually in a simulated joint venture real estate deal designed by Phillip G. Nichols, founding member and Senior Counsel at Pircher at Nichols & Meeks. Teams must answer numerous questions posed by a hypothetical general counsel and investment partner, and work through both legal and business issues to prepare a final professional memorandum for review.
