Management Development for Entrepreneurs

Surviving and Managing Growth in a Post-Pandemic Economy

The Management Development for Entrepreneurs (MDE) program supplements entrepreneurial vision with entrepreneurial competence. The 10-day certificate program is offered on the main UCLA campus each fall. The MDE program will provide business owners and executives with a road map and the tools to make the necessary pivots to survive and grow in a pandemic economy.

The 2023 10-day Program dates are:
September 7-10, October 6-9 and November 3-5

One year after attending the UCLA Management Development for Entrepreneurs Program, my role has gone from senior engineer being groomed for operations management to CEO of a women-owned and operated business with my fingers on the pulse of the entire operation. The confidence I gained through attending the Anderson MDE program and the skills I acquired through the business improvement plan process better prepared me to become the CEO of our company.

Program Details

MDE is designed for entrepreneurs and/or executives in existing businesses looking for entrepreneurial focused MBA concepts that will enhance their company’s management, revenues, profits and market impact. Most entrepreneurs have been in business a minimum of 3–5 years with approximately $500,000 in revenue, and their companies are positioned for growth.
The MDE Program is an intensive learning experience incorporating over 60 hours of lectures, case discussions and workshops. Before lectures, entrepreneurs complete select readings and homework assignments that improve the depth and quality of class discussions. The MDE program manager gives participants the support needed to balance MDE activities with the demands of their businesses by providing them with lecture readings and materials, offering technical support and communicating program reminders and updates.
Chosen from UCLA Anderson’s award-winning faculty, MDE instructors are distinguished for their contributions to entrepreneurial education and small business consulting. They have proven success in teaching entrepreneurs the techniques to build and manage effective and profitable organizations.
Corporate sponsors underwrite the program costs so that we can offer a discounted tuition of $4,500. Tuition includes orientation, more than 60 hours of classroom instruction, MBA consultation, leadership evaluation, books and materials, meals, parking and the graduation ceremony and banquet.

Sponsors

MDE sponsors provide the program with generous financial support, individual scholarships and participant referrals. Their long-term commitment to MDE has enabled UCLA Anderson to build equity and diversity within the business community. With the firm belief that professional entrepreneurial training is the key to furthering the development of under-utilized small businesses, MDE seeks to train professionals in growing enterprises to induce productivity and profitability in the marketplace. Our sponsors support MDE because they recognize that entrepreneurs, particularly within many of their own supplier companies, lack formal exposure to the tools, methods, strategies and approaches needed to develop and scale their organizations. During the MDE program, participants have the opportunity to build and strengthen connections with our sponsor representatives and also develop ties to various regional trade associations and diversity-focused organizations.
