Join the UCLA Anderson New York alumni chapter for a special Anderson Evening with Cary Thompson, Executive Vice Chairman, Global Corporate & Investment Banking, Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Learn about Cary’s somewhat untraditional path to investment banking including attending law school, taking on the role of CEO at a loan company, and more. About Cary H. Thompson

Cary Thompson is The Executive Vice Chairman of Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Mr. Thompson currently advises numerous public and private companies on a variety of transactions including mergers and acquisitions, capital raising and restructuring with a specific focus on financial institutions, industrial, technology and media companies. Mr. Thompson has completed over $1 trillion in transactions during his career. Recent transactions include the sale of the Los Angeles Clippers to Steve Ballmer for $2 billion, advising FIS on its $9.2 billion acquisition of SunGard and Global Payments on its $4.8 billion purchase of Heartland.

Mr. Thompson joined Bank of America from Bear Stearns where he served as Senior Managing Director since 1999. Mr. Thompson ran investment banking on the West Coast and was a senior financial institutions and media banker since the 1980's. Prior to joining Bear Stearns he served as Chief Executive Officer of Aames Financial Corporation in the mid to late 90's. Aames Financial was a NYSE company with over 2,000 employees, whose market cap exceeded $1 billion and had annual revenue of over $250 million. He sold a controlling interest in Aames to Capital Z Partners in early 1999. Aames was one of only two public companies in the sub-prime mortgage business to survive the liquidity crisis in the late 1990's.

Prior to joining Aames, Mr. Thompson served for two years as head of the Financial Institutions and Media Investment Banking Groups at NatWest Capital Markets. Prior to that he was with Oppenheimer & Co., where he began as the head of Financial Institutions in the Western United States, adding co-head of Media in 1991.

Mr. Thompson serves or has served on a number of public board of directors, including Fidelity National Financial, SonicWall Corporation, FNIS Corporation, Lender Processing Services, Aames Financial Corporation, Fidelity Information Services, Black Knight Financial Services and Escrow.com. In addition, he serves on the Los Angeles Music Center Board of Directors.

Mr. Thompson received his B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley, and his Juris Doctorate from the University of Southern California Law School. He is married to Karen Heilman and has three daughters, Emily (31), Sarah (27) and Jenna (21). The Thompson family resides in Pacific Palisades, CA.
