Bio

Samuel Skowronek is a postdoctoral scholar in the Behavioral Decision Making area at the UCLA Anderson School of Management. His research focuses on ethical decision making in particular. He investigates why people act unethically and how self-conscious emotions (such as shame and embarrassment) affect ethical judgments. In this work, he also designs interventions to mitigate unethical behavior in organizations. In other research, Sam studies differences between how men and women approach algorithms intended to match applicants to employers equitably. Sam adopts a multi-method approach using field and lab experiments, as well as archival analysis and qualitative methods. His research has been published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences and Psychological Science and has been covered by the New York Times. His doctoral work investigating dishonesty was awarded Best Student Paper by the Conflict Management Division at the Academy of Management Conference.
