Florence and Harry (B.A. ’73) Sloan have long been supporters of UCLA and UCLA Anderson. She is a board member of the UCLA Foundation and a co-chair of that organization’s philanthropy committee. He is a member of UCLA Anderson’s Board of Advisors. In addition, they are financial supporters of a number of campus initiatives. They’ve continued their commitment with a multimillion-dollar gift to UCLA Anderson that establishes the Florence and Harry Sloan Fellowship as well as provides financial backing for Anderson’s Center for Media, Entertainment & Sports. The gift comes courtesy of the Harry and Florence Sloan Foundation.

“I believe very strongly in providing financial support for educational opportunities to people who would otherwise be prevented from advancing their academic and career goals,” said Florence, a television and film producer whose credits include the International Emmy Award-winning series Delhi Crime. “I’d love to see more students pursue careers in media and entertainment.”

Harry, a former chairman and CEO of MGM, began his career as an entertainment lawyer. He said the gift fits well within the focus of the Sloan Foundation.

“The foundation focuses primarily on education and health care, and close to 100% of the donations that we’ve made have been in these areas,” said Harry, who graduated from UCLA in 1973 and who, in addition to his Anderson board post, holds several leadership positions at USC. “The education at Anderson, in my opinion, is unrivaled, in that it combines the quality of a top public university with the best relationships in the media and the entertainment world.

“We encourage others to follow our lead. When you receive something of such value as I did with my UCLA education, you want to give back. My education had so much to do with the success of my career. If we can help to make it possible for students to attend Anderson through these fellowships, I think we’ve done something worthy.”

“The generosity of Florence and Harry Sloan is another example of their commitment to the mission of UCLA Anderson and the greater UCLA community,” said UCLA Anderson’s Dean Tony Bernardo. “This gift provides much needed support for our Center for Media, Entertainment & Sports while also benefiting worthy students in their educational and career pursuits.”
