Event Description

Have you ever wanted to learn more about the inner workings of the Santa Monica Farmers’ Market, one of the largest and most important markets in the country? Well, you’re in luck. UCLA alum Amelia Saltsman, the award-winning author of The 'Santa Monica Farmers’ Market Cookbook', will treat alumni to a behind-the-scenes tour of the market. She will discuss the business model(s) employed by farmers’ markets, provide expert insight on how to navigate the market like a pro, introduce attendees to farmers, and give you tips on what to buy and how to cook it.

About Amelia Saltsman

Amelia is the author of 'The Santa Monica Farmers’ Market Cookbook' and 'The Seasonal Jewish Kitchen'. As the Los Angeles-born daughter of a Romanian mother and Iraqi father who were raised in Israel, Amelia’s food reflects the bold, diverse flavors of her eclectic background. She is a frequent guest on KCRW’s Good Food show and has been featured in and written for such publications as Better Homes & Gardens, Bon Appétit, Los Angeles Times, Food 52, and Cooking Light, and is a contributor to The Sage Encyclopedia of Food Issues. A longtime champion for family farms and farmers' markets at state and local levels, Amelia uses her “six seasons approach” to weave together food, culture, and agriculture into one seamless whole for today’s mindful cooks.
