Robert S. Murley '74

Robert S. Murley is a Vice Chairman-Senior Advisor of Credit Suisse and Chairman of Investment Banking for the Americas. In addition to his leadership role within the firm, Mr. Murley is responsible for several of the Firm’s largest investment banking clients including Boeing, Aon, Cargill, 3M and Ford.

Mr. Murley joined Credit Suisse First Boston in 1975, was named a Managing Director in 1984 and appointed Vice Chairman in 1998. He began his career in the New York office. In 1983, he relocated to the Firm’s Chicago office. He served as head of the Chicago office from 1991 to 2005. In 1999, he co-founded the Global Industrial and Services Group, one of the Firm’s largest industry practices. In 2005, Mr. Murley was appointed as Chairman of Investment Banking for the Americas.

Mr. Murley received his B.A. from Princeton University, his M.B.A. from the UCLA Anderson School of Management and his M.S. in International Economics from the London School of Economics. Mr. Murley also serves on numerous corporate civic boards. He is an independent director of Apollo Education Group, Stericycle Corporation, Health Insurance Innovations, Stone Energy Corporation, Harbour Group and  Brown Advisory.  His civic activities include serving as an Emeritus Charter Trustee  of Princeton University, Trustee and past Chair of the Board of the Educational Testing Service (Princeton, New Jersey), Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Anne and Robert Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, Chair of the Board of the Lurie Children’s Foundation, Chair of the Board of Advisors of the UCLA Anderson School of Management, Trustee of the Museum of Science and Industry of Chicago, and a member of the Economic Club and the Commercial Club of Chicago. Mr. Murley and his wife have three children and reside in Lake Forest, Illinois.
