"Self-awareness is perhaps the most important strength a leader can have, along with a willingness to understand other people and empathize with them." This is one of many essential leadership attributes Stewart Bainum ('70) learned in a managerial psychology course. The soft skills that he developed during his UCLA MBA experience has served him well. As the chairman of Choice Hotels, Bainum is helping hotel franchisees, hit hard by the current pandemic, to get the support they need to manage the crisis. Classmates Pivot Cancer Biopharma
Company to Fight COVID-19 |

Upon graduation from UCLA Anderson in 2012, classmates Ilya Rachman ('12) and Sean Senn ('12) joined forces to launch Immix Biopharma. Senn, who was working as a biotech patent lawyer, and Rachman who is a physician and scientist, wanted to devise a more efficient way to develop medicines for patients with advanced cancer. After the COVID-19 pandemic hit, Immix shifted its focus and teamed with biopharmaceutical company MannKind to develop possible treatment options for the virus. Immix also hopes to craft a prevention strategy to reduce reinfection risk once the economy begins to reopen. Read more. | |
