Message from Kate Pletcher ('07), President of Anderson Alumni Network |
"I'm incredibly excited to be serving as your UCLA Anderson Alumni Network President for the next two years. By nature, I am a connector…I LOVE connecting people to people, companies to people, potential partners to potential partners, and on and on. As a student at Anderson, I really enjoyed the many opportunities I had to connect with new opportunities, learning experiences, and future friends/colleagues. My hope, as your President, is to help more of you expand and deepen your connections with each other, the school, and our Anderson community. We've gotten off to a great start with some of the really wonderful things I was involved with on the Board of Directors."

Roaming Hunger is Fueling Small
Businesses and Conversations |
Founded in 2009 by Ross Resnick ('14), Roaming Hunger is a mobile food platform that helps adventurous eaters find gourmet food trucks, supporting over 18,000 food trucks, carts and small food businesses. When people stopped gathering, due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the company had to pivot. "We realized that we had the power to do something unique: keep our partners in business while doing good for the community and helping frontline workers and organizations," said Mircea Vlaicu ('15), Roaming Hunger's growth marketing director. They started with helping feed local communities and health care workers. Since then, they have set up a Conversation Truck at events and protests to create a safe space for uncomfortable conversations.

Professor Charles Corbett quickly put together a course offering insights on how the pandemic is testing the resilience of supply chains and creating disruption. In addition to sharing frameworks from existing books and materials, Corbett solicited the support of 16 Anderson alumni who shared real world expertise through panels on supply chain issues in the apparel, grocery, healthcare, and retail industries. Applying MBA Skill Sets to Impact Nonprofit Boards |
For Tarik Walmsley ('20), it was UCLA Anderson's sharp focus on impact and spirit of shared success that attracted him to the program. As part of Anderson's Net Impact Chapter, Tarik took part in Impact Week programming and experienced hands-on investing through the Anderson Venture Impact Partners. Seeking direct experience with board-level nonprofit strategy, Net Impact launched a new Board Fellows Program in 2020 placing MBA students on various boards of directors of local partner, nonprofit organizations as non-voting members. First-year fellows are also matched with a board mentor, who are typically an Anderson alumnus or alumna. "Students and alumni work side by side, connected through a shared purpose—serving those in need and strengthening our Anderson family."
