Barbra Streisand and Jeffrey Katzenberg Honored with Anderson Leadership Awards

On February 1, the 2019 Velocity Women’s Leadership Summit featured stories about overcoming obstacles on the path to success from UCLA’s head gymnastics coach Valorie Kondos Field (B.A. ’87), Alli Webb, founder of Drybar, and Maya Shankar, Google’s global head of behavioral science. In its seventh year, the conference presented by the Women’s Business Connection and Anderson Women, culminated in the inaugural Velocity award presented to multi-award winning artist Barbra Streisand. Addressing a captivated audience of 500+, Streisand said “So, don’t wait decades to believe in yourselves, don’t be afraid to use your voice, ask for what you want and question those who say no.” Read more. At the Center for MEMES’ Pulse Entertainment, Sports & Technology Conference on February 8, Interim Dean Al Osborne presented the Game Changer award to entertainment legend Jeffrey Katzenberg. Recognized for his impact and exceptional leadership in the entertainment industry, Katzenberg previously held roles as chairman of Walt Disney Studios, co-founder of Dreamworks SKG and CEO of Dreamworks Animation. Currently the co-founder and managing partner of WndrCo, a holding company developing consumer technology businesses including short-form video service Quibi, he attributed the success he has garnered to “following the path paved by Walt Disney and advice he received from George Lucas.” Read more.

Alumni Profile | Patricia Greenwood-Eitner '04 Helps First-Gen College Students

As a board member of UCLA Anderson’s Riordan Programs, Patrice Greenwood-Eitner ('04) is committed to giving back to the programs that she gained so much from. As a first-generation college student and former Riordan Scholar and MBA fellow, Greenwood-Eitner came close to pursuing a law degree. Now a finance, international business and marketing executive at money management firm DoubleLine Group, she credits the Riordan Programs for influencing her decision to change the direction of her career. Emphasizing the instrumental role that the programs play in teaching young people about the versatility of business degrees, she is enthusiastic to help take the programs to the next level. Legacy of Jenessa Shapiro Will Support Under-Represented Anderson Students

In December, UCLA Anderson lost one of its brightest stars when Jenessa Shapiro, Associate Professor of Management and Organizations and UCLA Anderson Faculty Term Chair in Management, passed away. An award-winning scholar of stereotype threat, discrimination and prejudice, Professor Shapiro was also a dedicated teacher and mentor to students. To honor her legacy, a new student fellowship has been established that will promote the inclusivity she championed so brilliantly. The Jenessa Shapiro Fellowship Fund will provide support for Anderson students from under-represented backgrounds, which may include women. Professor Noah Goldstein, Jenessa Shapiro's husband, will match the first $10,000 contributed. Give.
