Saturday Business Institute

SBI provides first-year high school students the opportunity to develop their leadership skills and begin to navigate the college application process.

The Riordan Programs’ Saturday Business Institute (SBI) is a school site-based program modeled after the Riordan Scholars program. SBI initiatives are designed to expose 9th and 10th graders to college and business and to create a pipeline to our Riordan Scholars Program. Approximately 20-25 students are selected by a school administrator to participate in the SBI program. There are currently 7 high school sites: Alliance Renee & Meyer Luskin College-Ready Academy, Alliance Marc & Eva Stern Math and Science School,  Centinela Valley Union High School District, Da Vinci Schools, Inglewood High School, King Drew Medical Magnet High School, and St. Mary’s Academy.

The program includes:

  • Four Saturday sessions at the school site
  • College Action Plan and financial aid counseling
  • Professional development workshops, including essay writing, resume writing, interviewing techniques, public speaking
  • Career exploration workshops
