Amgen CEO Robert A. Bradway to Deliver Commencement Address at UCLA Anderson

LOS ANGELES, (April 20, 2017) — UCLA Anderson School of Management announced today that Robert Bradway, chairman and CEO of Amgen, will address this year’s MBA, Fully Employed MBA (FEMBA), Executive MBA (EMBA) and Ph.D. class of graduates. The graduation ceremony will take place on June 16, 2017, at 4:00 p.m., in Wilson Plaza on the UCLA campus.

Bradway was named Amgen’s chief executive officer in May 2012 and chairman in January 2013. He joined the company in 2006 as vice president of operations strategy, and rose rapidly through the ranks. He was promoted to executive vice president and chief financial officer in 2007, to president and chief operating officer in 2010 and appointed to the Amgen board of directors in 2011.

“Bob has been at the helm leading Amgen’s pipeline of transformative new drugs, overseeing many advances in therapies that will help treat patients who have a range of serious diseases,” says UCLA Anderson Dean Judy Olian. “Starting in the field of finance, he has followed a very interesting career path culminating in this biotech leadership role, in which he plays a part in improving the health and well-being of people all over the world. We’re honored to host him as the keynote speaker for our 2017 commencement celebration.”

“I’m delighted to be speaking with this next-generation of global leaders at a time in business marked by both unprecedented opportunities and significant challenges,” says Bradway.

Prior to joining Amgen, Bradway was a managing director at Morgan Stanley in London, where, beginning in 2001, he had responsibility for the firm’s banking department and corporate finance activities in Europe. Bradway joined Morgan Stanley in New York as a health care industry investment banker in 1985 and moved to London in 1990.

Bradway holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from Amherst College and an MBA from Harvard University. He is a member of the board of directors of The Boeing Company and serves on the board of trustees of the University of Southern California. He is chairman of the CEO Roundtable on Cancer, a nonprofit organization comprising executives seeking to advance cancer treatments and prevention.
