About the Award
Brian Cornell (B.A. ’81, CERT ’91), board chairman and chief executive officer of Target, received the 2022 John Wooden Global Leadership Award in recognition of his visionary leadership, philanthropy, and career-long advocacy of diversity and inclusion in corporate leadership. In a ceremony featuring music and heartfelt tributes, Cornell encouraged the MBA students, faculty and fellow professionals in attendance, “Never lose focus on the importance of your values, your purpose and your principles.”
Martin Jarmond, UCLA’s Alice and Nahum Lainer Family Director of Athletics, spoke with him about the wisdom of approaching challenges as a team rather than unilaterally, whether on the playing field or the boardroom.
