Impact investments are made with the intention of generating measurable, social or environmental outcomes in addition to a financial return. UCLA Anderson offers students hands-on opportunities to identify social ventures and manage capital for profit and purpose.
MBA Impact Investing Network & Training (MIINT)
The MBA Impact Investing Network & Training (MIINT) program run by Bridges Ventures, and hosted by Wharton, is an experiential venture lab that guides students through the sourcing and diligence process to select seed-stage companies for potential impact investments. Upon completion of the 6-month MIINT educational curriculum, UCLA Anderson hosts a competition to identify the team that will represent UCLA Anderson at the global competition at The Wharton School of Management in April, where teams compete for a $50,000 investment into the company. Companies sourced during MIINT are also presented to Anderson Venture Impact Partners (AVIP).
UCLA Anderson Impact Investing Fund
Members of Anderson Venture Impact Partners, UCLA Anderson's student-led impact investing fund, manage a real impact investment fund and make minority investments of at least $50,000 in early-stage ventures that have the intention of generating measuring social and/or environmental returns alongside financial returns. Under the guidance and mentorship of faculty, alumni and industry practitioners, AVIP members drive the full investment lifecycle from deal sourcing and structuring to portfolio monitoring and impact measurement.
“There are increasingly more ways to leverage capital to advance social and environmental issue areas. At the same time, the opportunities and organizations that are most aligned to your personal values may be few and far between. Take advantage of the two years and programming to explore and really think about the (professional) role you want to play within the social impact ecosystem. Identify your skill gaps early on, so you can fill them with experiential learnings, whether through the impact venture fund, impact consulting projects, internships, webinars, networking groups and events, etc. Be patient and wait for the right opportunity.”
