Investment Banking Fellowship

The Fink Center hosts the Investment Banking and Kayne Investment Management Fellowship Programs. First year, full-time MBA students with great potential are chosen as Fellows and receive 3 industry mentors. Mentors come from leading firms and every effort will be made so that each Fellow receives a mentor that is junior, mid-level, and senior in their career. This program provides assistance to first-year MBAs committed to completing summer internships in investment banking and investment management and mentors help students in navigating this process. Fellows also receive a nominal Fellowship Award.

The Center accepts applications in the Fall of each year for selecting fellows for the next year.

Investment Banking

 

The Investment Banking Fellows program is designed to encourage fellows in pursuing a career in investment banking. In addition to their formal recognition as fellows, the selected students will be matched with alumni mentors in the field. These mentors may be drawn from either the U.S. or international investment banking centers. Fellows will receive guidance in interview preparation for summer internships. They will also have facilitated access to distinguished investment banking professionals who are friends of the Fink Center.

Fellows are expected to participate in the standard investment banking internship recruiting process through the Parker Career Center, in addition to attending special meetings organized by the program. The final choice of internship is left in each fellow's hands, though the program expects that fellows will choose an internship in investment banking.

Selection process: Interested first-year, full-time MBA students should submit their application by 11:59pm on Thursday, September 21st, 2017.

The program is open to all UCLA Anderson MBA students with a demonstrated interest and commitment to completing a summer internship in investment banking in Summer 2018. The Fellowship now accepts applications from both full-time MBA students as well as Fully Employed MBA students who can arrange to intern in the summer. Finalists will be chosen by a selection committee based on academic excellence, innovation, creativity, and motivation to succeed in the world of investment banking. We encourage applications both from those with experience in the industry and from those who are considering entering investment banking for the first time.

Neil Doshi (’18)
2016 - 2017 Fellow

Neil Doshi is pursuing an MBA at UCLA Anderson with an emphasis on finance. Prior to Anderson, Neil worked in internal strategy at United Airlines, where he focused on finding and estimating synergies and savings opportunities after the company’s merger with Continental. Before United, he worked for a startup regional airline out of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where he helped build the pricing and revenue management department. Neil graduated from Indiana University in 2012 with a B.A. in economics and a minor in chemistry.

At Anderson, Neil is the VP of Education for the Investment Finance Association, VP of Yield & Special Projects for the Admissions Ambassador Corps, and VP of Finance for the Travel and Hospitality Association. This summer he will be interning at Credit Suisse in LA as a Investment Banking Associate.

George Rossin (’18)
2016 - 2017 Fellow

George Rossin is pursuing an MBA at UCLA Anderson with an emphasis on Finance. Prior to attending Anderson, George worked as a software engineer at Chopper Trading LLC, Optiver US LLC, and Citadel LLC in Chicago focusing on developing trading algorithms.

George graduated from Duke University in 2009 with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and went on to get his M.S. in Electrical Engineering at Stanford University in 2011. He is currently serving as the DOJ Director on the IFA board and will be an ACT coach for Investment Banking recruiting next year. He is excited to join J.P. Morgan this summer as a Summer Associate in the New York office.

Joyce Truong (’18)
2016 - 2017 Fellow

Joyce Truong is pursuing an MBA at UCLA Anderson with an emphasis on finance. Prior to attending Anderson, Joyce worked on Google’s compensation team. At Google, Joyce led the modeling efforts and cross-functional discussions with partners from HR, finance and other business units to determine parameters for the annual bonuses of over 42,000 Google employees. Prior to Google, Joyce was at L.E.K. Consulting, where she served major health services and private equity clients.

At UCLA Anderson, Joyce is the VP of Communications for the Investment Finance Association, VP of Investing for the Anderson Venture Impact Program, member of the Anderson Student Asset Management Fellowship, President of the Anderson Basketball Club, and recipient of the Forté Fellowship. She graduated from Stanford in 2011 with a B.A. in human biology and an M.S. in management science and engineering.

This summer, Joyce will be interning as an Investment Banking Associate with the Global Financial Sponsors Group at Barclays.

Harshvardhan Chowdhary
2015 - 2016 Fellow

Harsh Chowdhary is pursuing an MBA with an emphasis in entertainment at UCLA Anderson. Prior to arriving at Anderson, Harsh was a Senior Analyst at Cornerstone Research in Los Angeles. At Cornerstone, Harsh worked on building economic damages models to support expert witnesses in corporate litigation matters. Prior to Cornerstone, Harsh was an auditor in Ernst & Young’s Financial Services Office, where he served banking and private equity clients.

Harsh graduated from Claremont McKenna College with a B.A. in economics and accounting. At UCLA Anderson, Harsh was the President of the Investment Finance Association. Harsh most recently completed a summer internship with Goldman Sachs & Co. in the Los Angeles office for the Western Region Advisory team. He will be returning there full-time upon graduation.

Max Levenstein
2015 - 2016 Fellow

Max Levenstein is a second year MBA student at Anderson focusing his studies on Real Estate Finance and will begin his post-graduate career Hackman Capital Partners working to acquire and reposition urban infill assets across the US.

During his time at Anderson, Max was involved in the Investment Finance Association’s Board as VP of Education and worked closely with the Parker Career Management Center to assist students with recruiting preparation across all industries.

Michael Santia
2015 - 2016 Fellow

Prior to arriving at Anderson, Michael was an Assistant Vice President in Franklin Templeton Investments’ private wealth management group. At Franklin Templeton, Michael was responsible for trading implementation, asset allocation, portfolio analytics, and the development of relationships with individuals, families, and foundations.

Michael graduated with a bachelor’s degree in finance from Santa Clara University, where he was a member of the NCAA Division I Baseball team. At UCLA Anderson, Michael is on the executive board of the Investment Finance Association, serving as the VP of External Communications, and is a Laurence and Lori Fink Center Investment Banking Fellow. This past summer, Michael interned at Bank of America Merrill Lynch in their Global Industrials Group in New York, and he will be returning there full-time after graduation.

In his free time, Michael enjoys playing softball and golf, traveling to new places, and rooting for his Bay Area sports teams.

Nick Babikian
2014 - 2015 Fellow

Nick Babikian is pursuing an MBA with an emphasis in finance at UCLA Anderson. Prior to Anderson, Nick was as a Project Manager at Kinetic Systems Inc., an international construction company. Before being promoted to Project Manager, he worked as an engineer based in Frankfurt, Germany and was a consultant to design teams on projects throughout Europe, the Middle East and Southeast Asia.

Nick graduated from the University of Southern California with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. At USC, Nick rowed for the men's crew team and placed second in the Grand Challenge Cup at the Henley Royal Regatta. At UCLA Anderson, Nick is a member of the Investment Finance Association and the Public Speaking Club. Nick will be doing his summer internship with Goldman Sachs in their Energy Group in Houston. Nick completed his summer internship with Goldman Sachs in their Energy Group in Houston. He will be returning there fulltime upon graduation.

Ian Martin
2014 - 2015 Fellow

Ian Martin is pursuing an MBA with an emphasis in finance at UCLA Anderson. Prior to arriving at Anderson, Ian was a Senior Cash Desk Associate in PIMCO's Portfolio Management Group in Newport Beach. At PIMCO, Ian managed the cash investment and liquidity monitoring process in all of PIMCO's publicly traded mutual funds and separately managed client accounts. Prior to PIMCO, Ian was a Captain in the United States Marine Corps, where he served as an Infantry and Intelligence officer.

Ian graduated from Bucknell University in 2007 with a B.S. in Business Administration, with a concentration in Accounting. At UCLA Anderson, Ian is on the executive boards of both the Investment Finance Association and the Anderson Veterans Association. Ian most recently completed a summer internship with Lazard Frères & Co., and will be joining J.P. Morgan's Healthcare Investment Banking group in New York upon graduation.

Blake Nixon
2014 - 2015 Fellow

Blake Nixon is pursuing his MBA in Finance at UCLA Anderson. Prior to Anderson, Blake spent five years in Beijing, China, most recently as a Manager in KPMG China's Transaction and Restructuring group, where he led teams focused on M&A advisory including strategy, due diligence and corporate finance. His global deal experience ranges from advising middle-market firms to some of the largest cross-border transactions involving China, including representing clients on both the buy-side and sell-side.

At UCLA Anderson, Blake is a member of the Investment Finance Association, Greater China Business Club and the Anderson Golf Club. Blake holds an Economics degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He currently lives with his wife in Los Angeles, CA. Blake completed his summer internship with Barclays in their Financial Sponsors Group in Los Angeles. He will be returning there fulltime upon graduation.

Doug Taylor
2014 - 2015 Fellow

Doug Taylor is pursuing his MBA in Finance at UCLA Anderson. Prior to Anderson, Doug spent seven years at Thomson Reuters in the Capital Markets Consulting Group in New York City. At Thomson Reuters, Doug was a consultant to equity and debt capital markets investment bankers, helping them market their transactions to institutional investors.

At Anderson, Doug is a First Year Director of Investment Banking for the Investment Finance Association and a member of the UCLA Anderson Outdoor Adventure Club. He graduated from the University of Virginia, where he majored in Economics. Doug completed his summer internship with Citi in their Industrials group in New York. He will be returning there fulltime upon graduation.

Buzz Black
2013 - 2014 Fellow

Buzz Black is pursuing an MBA with an emphasis in finance at UCLA Anderson. Prior to arriving at Anderson, Buzz was a Senior Financial Analyst at Merrill Lynch's Private Banking and Investment Group in Los Angeles.

At Merrill Lynch, Buzz worked on an advisory team that managed $3 billion in high-net worth client assets. Buzz graduated from Brigham Young University with a B.S. in Finance. At BYU, Buzz was a Spanish language instructor and an active member of the BYU Finance Society. At UCLA Anderson, Buzz is Captain of the Anderson Flag Football Team and a First Year Director in the Investment Finance Association. Buzz Black accepted a summer internship position with Bank of America Merrill Lynch in Palo Alto and will be returning there full time to work in their Technology Group.

Brian Innes
2013 - 2014 Fellow

Brian Innes is pursuing his MBA at UCLA Anderson. Previously, Brian worked in the capital markets industry in New York for five years, most recently as an equity research analyst at Credit Suisse, covering the hardline retail sector.

Prior, he was an equity analyst at Telsey Advisory Group, a leading consumer-focused equity research and consulting firm, where he focused on discount, food, and hardline retail. Brian began his career as an institutional equity sales associate at Telsey Capital Group, the firm's broker-dealer subsidiary, covering institutional clients in the US, Canada, and Europe. He graduated from Northwestern University in 2008 with a B.A. in Economics, and holds the FINRA Series 7, 66, 86, and 87 licenses. At UCLA Anderson, Brian is President of the Investment Finance Association, a Director of Finance for the Retail Management Association, and President of the Anderson Ski & Snowboard Club. Brian Innes accepted a summer internship position with Bank of America Merrill Lynch in New York and will be returning there full time to work in their Global Industrials Group.

Sean Simons
2013 - 2014 Fellow

Sean Simons is pursuing an MBA in finance at UCLA Anderson. Prior to Anderson, Sean spent six years in Chicago working in both real estate and corporate finance. Most recently, Sean was an Assistant Vice President at Wintrust Financial Corporation, a bank holding company, where he focused on financing M&A transactions for bank clients and the management of an institutional leveraged loan portfolio.

Before joining Wintrust, Sean was a Senior Analyst at Cohen Financial, a real estate capital services firm, where he underwrote debt and equity investments. At Anderson, Sean is a first-year director in the Investment Finance Association and a member of the Anderson Golf Club. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Madison with majors in Finance and Real Estate. Sean Simons accepted a summer internship position with Bank of America Merrill Lynch in New York and will be returning there full time to work in their Leveraged Finance Group.

Steve Hollich
2012 - 2013 Fellow

Is pursuing an MBA specializing in finance while at UCLA Anderson. Upon completing undergrad, Hollich joined Bank of America Merrill Lynch as a Collateralized Debt Obligation analyst in Chicago and later worked as an underwriter in the commercial bank in San Francisco.

Most recently, Steve worked at Martin Wolf M&A Advisors as an analyst covering middle-market companies in the IT sector. At Anderson, Steve is a first-year director of investment banking in the Investment Finance Association and a member of the Wine Club. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Madison with a Bachelors in Business Administration majoring in both Finance and Real Estate. Steve did his summer internship at Moelis & Co. in Los Angeles and will be returning there fulltime upon graduation.

Andrew Skrip

Is pursuing his MBA at UCLA Anderson. Most recently, he worked at Union Bank, where he focused on financial planning, analysis and business strategy within the retail banking segment.

At UCLA, Skrip is a first- year director of investment banking in the Investment Finance Association and a member of the Entrepreneurial Association. Skrip attended Claremont McKenna College, where he majored in Economics and Accounting and was a four-year letter winner of the Men's Varsity Basketball Team. Upon graduation, he took a role with PricewaterhouseCoopers and gained CPA licensure. Skrip did his summer internship at Deutsche Bank in San Francisco and will be returning there fulltime upon graduation.

Matthew Cautero most recently was an investment associate at University of Pennsylvania's Office of Investments, where he focused on private equity and absolute return investments within the university's $6 billion endowment fund.

At UCLA, Cautero is a first-year director in the Investment Finance Association and a member of the Ski & Snowboard Club. Cautero attended Yale University, where he majored in history and was a four-year letter winner on Yale's Varsity Football Team. Upon graduation, he joined Lazard Fréres as an analyst in its Private Fund Advisory Group. Cautero will be interning at Deutsche Bank in San Francisco this summer.

Robert Michlovich

Rob Michlovich is pursuing an MBA in finance at UCLA Anderson. He spent the last four years working at UBS in New York City as a portfolio specialist on the municipal sales desk. Prior to the municipal sales desk, he was a member of the 2007 Graduate Training Program at UBS.
