Mentor Program

 

The Center for Global Management Mentor Program connects current full-time MBA, FEMBA, EMBA and UCLA-NUS EMBA students with members of the center's advisory board, a dedicated and actively engaged group of visionary global leaders spanning a variety of geographies and industries.

CGM board member Brent Smith (’86), co-founder and managing partner of LevelOne Capital Ltd., with one of his two mentees from the full-time MBA Class of 2020, Angela Arunarsirakul. Arunarsirakul received a summer internship with the United Nations Technology Innovation Lab (UNTIL) in Cyberjaya, Malaysia, that looks at digital innovation initiatives that will accelerate the adoption and achievement of the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals and a full-time offer to join Bain & Co. in Southeast Asia.

The program is open to all UCLA Anderson's full-time, fully employed and executive MBA students. First, second and third year students with a demonstrated interest in and commitment to a career in global business and management (either in the United States or abroad) are encouraged to apply.

  1. Mentor profiles will be shared with students who have expressed interest in the program. For those students interested, please contact  Lucy Allard.
  2. For 2020-21, there will be one student mentee per mentor, unless otherwise noted.
  3. Interested students should submit their application by noon PDT on Friday, October 9, 2020.
  4. Mentor and mentee pairing will be performed by the CGM leadership. Applications will be reviewed and interviews may be conducted. Mentees will be selected based on their demonstrated passion for international business and management, academic accomplishments, leadership, career path and engagement with the Center for Global Management at UCLA Anderson.
  5. The CGM will then meet with each mentee to outline guidelines and suggested interaction, as well as other expectations of the mentee/mentor relationship.

Once an expression of interest has been received by the CGM and mentor profiles have been shared, please complete the application which includes the following three components:

1. Application form with basic contact details together with a headshot photo

2. Current resume

3. A cover letter, not to exceed 750 words. Topic: discuss your background and career goals, interest in global business and management and why you are interested in the CGM Mentor Program. From the profiles received, students are encouraged to identify a particular board member, or two, who they would like as a mentor and explain the reason for the specific selection. Applicants should also note if they have ever participated in a mentor program and served as a mentor/mentee.

Days on the Job

 

In partnership with the Parker Career Management Center, student clubs organize on-site visits known as Days-on-the-Job (DOJs) with companies and recruiters in the U.S. and abroad. In mid-December, the Greater China Business Association (GCBA) organized a Greater China DOJ. Fourteen students met with JD.com, Kuaishou, Lenovo and Plug & Play in Beijing; Ctrip, Google China and Johnson & Johnson in Shanghai; and Tencent in Shenzhen. In addition, students met with UCLA Anderson alumni at mixers in all three cities. The Parker CMC, in conjunction with the international identity clubs, will continue to build and strengthen corporate recruiting partnerships internationally as well as domestically during the 2020-21 academic year.
