LETTER FROM Eric Mokover

written by Eric Mokover

As we look to “the next,” please save the dates of May 16-20, and plan on joining your friends and classmates at Alumni Weekend. On Thursday, May 16, we will hold an evening event where alumni mid-career professionals are invited to meet dozens of executive recruiters who are eager to meet you and whom we will host on campus. The next day, Friday, May 17, marks our Alumni Conference. Always an annual highlight, this year we will hear from a group of UCLA Anderson alumni who helped lead the Curiosity mission to Mars, hear a keynote by Dr. KR Sridhar, cofounder of Bloom Energy, the UCLA Anderson Forecast, featuring the inimitable Professor Ed Leamer, in addition to a number of other insightful keynotes, breakouts and panels. That evening, we will host concurrent networking receptions: one at the UCLA Anderson complex and another on the 3rd floor patio of the old GSM building (now the Luskin School of Public Affairs). It promises to be a terrific day on campus.

On Saturday, May 18, the school will host reunions for the classes of 1978, 1983, 1988, 1993, 1998, 2003 and 2008 at Shutters on the Beach and Casa del Mar in Santa Monica. We moved Reunions to the spring and to Santa Monica last year and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive. We expect 1,000 alumni to attend our Conference, the reunion cocktail reception, reunion dinners and the post-dinner reception. Reunion evening is not to be missed!

Finally, on Monday, May 20, the UCLA Anderson Golf Tournament will take place at the Woodland Hills Country Club. You may register for any and all of the events by clicking here.

On June 29, the Office of Alumni Relations will host the UCLA Anderson European Alumni Conference in London with power-packed panels and keynotes, featuring some of our terrific faculty and UCLA Anderson’s most accomplished alumni in Europe. The Conference will set a high standard for the future. Alumni world-wide are welcome to join us

I couldn’t be more proud that our Board of Visitors Chairman, Bob Beyer ’83, has been named our Distinguished Alumnus of the Year. Few have given more to the school on multiple levels in my 30+ years here, and he has combined his beneficence with an extraordinary career as well.  Thank you, Bob for all that you have done to help propel UCLA Anderson forward.

And it gives me special satisfaction that my classmate, Kit Jennings ’80, has been named one of our two Outstanding Alumni Service Award winners. It’s about time. Kit has dedicated himself to UCLA Anderson for over 30 years, serves on the Board of the Price Center for Entrepreneurial Studies and has mentored scores of MBA students over that period. A well-deserved congratulations to Kit, as well.

Constantine Malaxos ’96, who has led the UCLA Anderson New York Alumni Chapter for over 15 years is our other Outstanding Alumni Service Award winner. Constantine has been the creative spirit behind virtually all of the UCLA Anderson Alumni Network’s successes in the New York area in recent memory, and he is one of those people who simply has always stepped up on behalf of all of us.  A huge thanks to Constantine whose efforts clearly deserve this special recognition.

We have much to be proud of and thankful for at UCLA Anderson, and the tremendous leadership that we enjoy among our alumni network is an important reason why. Our heartfelt appreciation to the hundreds of you who help spread the good word, provide and advocate for employment opportunities for our students and fellow alumni, manage and enthusiastically attend our events, contribute your time, treasure and lead the charge.
