Dr. Gigi Johnson (MBA 1988) wears three hats -- all of which focus on next-generation creativity, technology, careers/work, and community. In addition to teaching and running the Center for Music Innovation at UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, she also runs two other organizations. As President of Next Careers, a non-profit, she creates programs around creative career design and STEM/STEAM career opportunities and skills. This organization also works with 7th-12th graders across Southern California on STEM skills as the Affiliate Partner for FIRST Tech Challenge. As Executive Director of the Maremel Institute, she creates educational programs, teaches, and speaks internationally on future impacts of digital disruption on media and cultural systems.
At the Center for Music Innovation she explores how tech-driven innovations are transforming music in terms of the song itself, experiences, and communities. As the host of the UCLA podcast "Innovating Music," she showcases diverse innovators changing music. In addition, she teaches a popular Internet Marketing and Branding class where students craft full marketing plans, websites, and social media campaigns for startup and existing music brands. Gigi previously had taught about digital disruption as a lecturer at UCLA Anderson, where she had been Executive Director of what is now its Center for Management of Enterprises in Media, Entertainment and Sports.
She received her EdD from Fielding Graduate University; her MBA from the UCLA Anderson School of Management; and her BA in Cinematic Arts from the University of Southern California.
