Connecting Anderson Alumni through Culture, Innovation & Impact

Learning and networking doesn’t end with business school—it’s lifelong for the UCLA Anderson alumni network. This past month, that came to life with Worldwide Welcome Weeks’ whirlwind tour through 12 countries and 17 U.S. cities. UCLA Anderson alumni enjoyed the unique opportunity to pick the minds of business executives and go behind the scenes at BoxMOCA Downtown Los AngelesThe Bouqs Company, Petco Park, and Westfield Century City. Moreover, our San Francisco and Seattle alumni chapters took part in a landmark event featuring Wall Street legend Howard Marks by participating in a live stream and discussion from Westwood.

It wasn’t all business in every city though. Many alumni chapters welcomed the Class of 2018 to their respective cities with happy hours and dinners. The Vancouver alumni chapter did its part to make an impact on its greater community with a day of service for an organization that provides food to individuals facing food security challenges. Connect with your local alumni chapter & affinity group and view Worldwide Welcome Weeks 2019 photos!

Student Profile | Amanda Sol Peralta ‘20 on Being the Bridge

Since a young age, Amanda Sol Peralta '20 has been educating others on what being “Chilean” means. Her family moved to the U.S. 25 years ago, which often meant that she was the single overlapping point between her family, friends and school.

Eager to contribute her unique knowledge to make life easier for others, she learned in organizational behavior class that she has in fact been playing a key role in building “structural holes,” the gaps between networks that can be bridged by individuals straddling groups. Although she understands the notion that the burden to explain experiences shouldn’t be placed on marginalized people, she views her experiences in underrepresented groups (Latinos, first-generation Americans, LGBTQ) as having created opportunities for her. “By putting my Latin and other identities front and center, I get to faithfully represent myself and add to the slowly shifting perceptions of my communities.” Read more.

John Wooden Global Leadership Awards Honors Netflix’s Reed Hastings

On November 29, UCLA Anderson will honor Reed Hastings, co-founder and CEO of Netflix, with the 2018 John Wooden Global Leadership Award. Once a reluctant CEO, Hastings has steered Netflix's renowned business model and corporate culture since 1997. Inspirational 100 alumna Susan Wojcicki ('98), CEO of YouTube, will moderate a discussion with Hastings during the awards ceremony, to be held at Raleigh Studios in Hollywood.

Four UCLA Anderson students will also be recognized as John Wooden Global Leadership Fellows. As a legendary coach, prolific author and inspiring speaker, John Wooden dedicated his life to motivating individuals to achieve their highest potential. Wooden instilled in others a sense of pride, a commitment to ethics and a respect for teamwork. These fundamental principles provide the cornerstone on which the John Wooden Global Leadership Program is built at UCLA Anderson. Learn more.
