New Admits,
Congratulations on your acceptance to Anderson! This is a great school with a very competitive application process, so you should feel proud of your achievements. Now all you need to do is pay the deposit and come to LA at the end of August…do it, you will be delighted you made this choice!
The next two years will be two of the best years of your life. We in the Management Consulting Association (MCA) will try to make these two years even better by providing you all the tools you need to evaluate and join the consulting industry. We will communicate more information to you once you arrive on campus in September, but in the meantime you can use this site to learn more about the consulting industry, our club, its activities, and the ways you can help shape its future.
The consulting industry Consulting is one of the most lucrative industries. It provides a great opportunity to test your knowledge, be challenged on a daily basis, and create a real impact on companies. Working in consulting firms, you will have the privilege of working with executives and advising them on their business strategy. A couple of significant trends have occurred in the industry in the last few years:
§ “Specialized” consulting firms: These firms focus on specific parts of the business and work more on implementation than on traditional “advice giving” (e.g., IT, Operations, Finance, Marketing). § Internal consulting departments within firms: Firms that realized they were spending a great deal of resources on outside consulting services decided to bring this function in house. They are actively looking for former “traditional” consultants to fill key roles in these departments.
These trends open a whole slew of new opportunities for us as MBA students.
The Management Consulting Association (MCA) As one of the largest clubs at Anderson, the MCA’s first and foremost responsibility is to promote the interests of our members seeking careers in management consulting and related industries. We accomplish this by:
§ Organizing events that allow students to learn more about the consulting industry and network with current consultants. These events give members the opportunity to decide whether they want to pursue a career in consulting. § Providing educational and interview preparation materials and workshops. By reviewing resumes, providing case interview preparation handbooks, organizing mock case interview with real consultants, and matching students with mentors, the MCA prepares its members for the consulting interview process. § Partnering with consulting firms to run events where students can test their case cracking skills. There is nothing better than getting feedback from partners in consulting firms when trying to crack a case. § Bringing representatives from both traditional and non-traditional consulting firms to share their experiences with our members, and promoting formal recruiting processes for these firms at Anderson.
Opportunities for you to get involved We focus on offering our members immediate opportunities to take leadership roles in the MCA. First year director positions typically involve organizing events, providing an opportunity for first years to network with the consulting firms, differentiate themselves in the applicant pool, and help run the MCA.
Please follow the instructions here if you would like to sign up for a membership. Many of the resources we provide are for members only, so it is important that you sign up for a MCA membership.
We are very excited to see you here in the fall. Please don’t hesitate to contact any of the officers if you have questions!
Best regards,
The Management Consulting Association at UCLA Anderson School of Management |
