Every organization, and every department within an organization, relies on a variety of manual and automated systems to perform day-to-day tasks and to achieve strategic goals. Operations and Technology Management (O&TM) is the management of all aspects of these systems, including:
The need to understand and manage operations is essential to all organizations, regardless of whether they manufacture a product, provide a service, or meet the needs of internal customers. O&TM spans all functional areas, from design and production through marketing, distribution, and finance, and is found in all industries, from hi-tech manufacturing to not-for-profit service agencies. The Operations Manager must continually focus on the "big picture," while also paying careful attention to the details of designing, implementing, and managing the processes and systems by which the organization's goods and/or services are produced.
The Operations and Technology Management Association seeks to augment the Anderson School MBA curriculum by sponsoring informative events that highlight strategic and tactical operations concerns. These events develop student awareness of:
These events range from two to six hours in length and are usually held on Fridays. Formats have included facilities tours, small group discussions with operations managers and staff, and a general introduction to the firm.

The speakers in the series are typically operations and operations consulting executives from a variety of industries, who come to Anderson for an hour at noon to discuss their firm and/or industry.
Usually, during the noon hour, these events are held for members to better prepare and educate students. Topics have included an introduction to the Operations curriculum at Anderson, case interviewing techniques, resume workshops, and career choice discussions.
