SBIR (Small Business Innovation Research) Program
Principal Investigator must have primary employment with the small business concern at the time of award and for the duration of the project period
Phase I: $150k maximum award for NSF and $100k for NIH.
Phase 2: Must have been awarded a phase I award. For the NSF $500k maximum awarded over 2 years and for the NIH $800k per year for 3 years.
STTR (Small Business Technology Transfer) Program
Requires research partners at universities or other non-profit research institutions to have a formal collaborative relationship with the small business. Requires that >40 % of the STTR research project be conducted by the small business concern and > 30 % of the work to be conducted by the single, "partnering" research institution.
The UCLA On-Campus Technology Incubator at CNSI
Launched in March 2009, the UCLA On-Campus Incubator is an innovative resource designed to help accelerate the growth of entrepreneurial start-up companies and early stage research projects based on technologies developed by UCLA faculty. It represents the first on-campus technology incubator that includes a built in education program. It will house 4 to 5 companies and will provide them with facilities, equipment and access to UCLA faculty. Click here for more information.
