Terry's career spans 20+ years in global telecommunications-leading both large and high risk emerging international telecommunications companies. His range of corporate roles has included CEO/President, corporate strategy, business development, human capital, corporate governance, and Board member/advisor. Eighteen of his 20+ years was spent working in a variety of roles with Vodafone/AirTouch/PacTel. During this time, Terry and his family moved 8 times including living 6 years abroad, in both London and The Hague, Netherlands.
Terry is currently Entrepreneur In Residence at Harvard Business School where he works with faculty and HBS students bringing telecom industry knowledge and advice to a variety of entrepreneurial focused business projects. He also serves on the Advisory Board of Harvard's California Research Center. In addition to his positions at Harvard, he is active with Board and advisory work with a wide range projects including: Assisting KKR with due diligence on key acquisition target; Consultant/Advisor-Citizen Global, mobile media network; guest lecturing/speaking at UCLA Anderson School, UCLA Department of Economics, and UC Berkeley Haas School of Business; Board of Visitors, UCLA Department of Economics; Board of Trustees, World Affairs Council of Northern CA; Board Member, Larkin Street Youth Services; and President, Terry and Suzan Kramer Foundation (focus on educational priorities).
Early in his career, Terry led various parts of the domestic US cellular and paging businesses for Vodafone/AirTouch/PacTel with roles including: Vice President and General Manager, AirTouch Cellular, Southwest Market and Vice President, Corporate Development, AirTouch Paging. Later he assumed responsibility for European Business Development for Vodafone/AirTouch/PacTel based in The Hague overseeing select existing and new international wireless investments. After returning to the U.S., he eventually moved back to Europe as Chief of Staff to Vodafone's Group CEO, based in London. He was then named Group HR Director and then Group Strategy and Business Improvement Director. Terry represented Vodafone on the Board of GSMA, the global, mobile industry association, and served as the Chair of The GSMA Strategy Committee.
In 2009, Terry was relocated back to the San Francisco Bay Area and named Regional President, Vodafone Americas responsible for Vodafone's 45% ownership interest in Verizon Wireless including joint Vodafone/Verizon operational priorities in technology roadmap, common services, global account management and procurement. Terry sat on the Board of Verizon Wireless and was a member of the Verizon Wireless HR Committee. He also was Chairman of Vodafone Ventures, investing in new ventures that align with Vodafone's long-term product roadmap in areas including mobile internet services, unified communications, and machine-to-machine applications. Since completing his assignment at Vodafone in 2010, Terry has served on a variety of Boards including the World Affairs Council of Northern California, the Board of Visitors at UCLA's Economics Department and the National Advisory Board at the Democratic National Committee.
Prior to joining Vodafone, Terry was CEO of Q Comm International, a publicly traded provider of transaction processing services for the telecommunications industry. Terry began his career in marketing at the Harris Corporation and was an Associate with Booz Allen & Hamilton, a management consulting firm. He holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA in Economics from the University of California, Los Angeles. Married with two children, Terry currently resides in the San Francisco Bay Area.
