The 2012 UCLA/Johnson & Johnson Advanced Management Institute welcomed the Office of Head Start and the National Centers to UCLA. These organizations affirmed their support of Head Start's efforts to provide high-quality developmentally appropriate services and experiences to children and families in Head Start. Participants learned what resources are available to programs, as well as what support the National Centers will provide for grantees regarding child outcomes, school readiness and parent/family/community engagement goals.
In the afternoon, we welcomed the National Center on Health, as well as Yasmina Vinci, Executive Director of the National Head Start Association. And last, but certainly not least, we welcomed Dr. Patrick Dowling, Chair of the Department of Family Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. Dr. Dowling has worked tirelessly to improve access and reduce health outcome disparities among racial and ethnic minorities and he shared his insight on the rising epidemic of childhood obesity in the ever increasing minority populations.
