"In 1989, I was an ESL (English as a Second Language) low-income immigrant student from El Salvador at Belmont High School in downtown Los Angeles. I was invited to attend a program (for a few Saturdays), sponsored by The Riordan Foundation at the UCLA school of business. It was the first time I ever walked into a college campus. Geographically, UCLA is onl a few miles from the inner-city in Los Angeles, but culturally it is worlds apart. I took away two things from that program. One, a t-shirt with a license plate on that back saying "1MBA2B" - none of my friends could figure out what it meant. Two, a conviction that I would go back to UCLA, one day, as a student. I received my JD from UCLA in 1997.
Thank you so much to The Riordan Programs, and everyone associated with the program, for planting the invaluable seed way back in 1989, that allowed me to view college as a potential destination, and ultimately a reality - not just a dream."
