EASTON HOSTS FIRST SATELLITE EVENT IN SAN DIEGO
SEPTEMBER 2012

On September 22, the ETLP co-hosted its first satellite event, organized by two students, Jing Shi and Prakash Krishnan (both FEMBA ’13) held at the University of California at San Diego. The event was titled “From Venture Start-Up to Fortune 500: Perspectives From Strategic Consultants.” Co-organizers included CAST-SD (Chinese Association for Science and Technology, San Diego) and University of California, San Diego. Dr. Wayne Huang (Management Consultant and MD/CTO for China Equity; Tsinghua Entrepreneur & Executive Club board member) presented and spoke about corporate strategy for companies in various life cycles, from venture startup to mature M&A phase.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP PANEL

A panel of entrepreneurs shared tools and tips for launching a business and finding and obtaining resources. Panelists included Brian Shedd (Technology Transfer Officer, UCLA Office of Intellectual Property and Industry Sponsored Research), Claire Cannon (‘11, Product Manager, Rexter.com), Clark Li (’11, Co-Founder, Rently.com), Tamra Johnson (’12, President of T Johnson Group), Maki Saito (President, ASU International) and Reiko Tamura (Founder, World People USA Inc).

Similar to past years, the ETLP hosted its social event to welcome new Easton students. Focus was on networking with fellow Easton students, who tend to be from various Anderson MBA programs, and to learn about the Easton program.

The Easton Leadership Styles Series is designed to expose Anderson students to a variety of top executives and their respective leadership styles and help students formulate their own personal style of leading. Leda Csanka, SVP and chief information officer at Cetera Financial, spoke at this event.
EASTON KEYNOTE
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 20, 2013

Ty Curry, managing principal with ZS Associates, keynoted ETLP’s annual event. Like previous years, this year’s event focused on preparing students for future leadership positions and gaining management knowledge and entrepreneurial disposition to succeed in diverse technical settings—whether in small startups or in bigger technology corporations. Curry shared Jim Collin’s perspective of Level Five leaders—leaders who lead with humility and an unwavering will, putting their team and institution before them. Many Level Five leaders are shy, gracious, quiet and self-effacing, the attributes also associated with technically savvy people.
HIGH TECH PANEL
MARCH 6, 2013

This panel was themed around the high-tech industry, focusing on four emerging technologies—cloud computing, biotech, new media and cleantech—for those interested in a career in their corresponding markets. Panelists included Terrence Allota (Senior Associate Scientist, Amgen), Ben Bono (Senior Marketing Manager, Deca.tv), Samba Pedapalli (Field Application Architect, Workday) and Michael Swords (Executive Director, Strategic Research & Global Partnerships, UCLA Office of Vice Chancellor Research).

Terry Kramer, U.S. Ambassador to the World Conference of International Telecommunications on Mobile Technology, spoke at this event. Kramer brought his expertise from the telecom industry, and advised the participants on a variety of entrepreneurially focused business projects.

Students joined speakers working in the cloud computing and Big Data areas each Tuesday throughout the spring quarter. Speakers included Chris Hallenbeck, Data Warehousing Architect of Data Warehouse Solutions at SAP; Michael Clements, Principal Engineer, Data Solutions at Disney Technology Shared Services; Umeshwar Dayal, HP Fellow and Director of the Information Analytics Lab at Hewlett-Packard Labs; Leda Csanka, Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Cetera Financial Group, Dr. Dima Rekesh, STSM Advanced Cloud Solution GTS at IBM; Terry Hanold, VP Newbusiness Initiatives AWS at Amazon.com; Scott Skellenger, Sr. Director, Global Information Services at Illumina Inc.; and Dr. Michael Zeller, CEO of Zementis Inc.
