On Thursday, May 7, 2009 members of the UCLA Anderson School of Management Board of Visitors and guests gathered for a formal ribbon cutting ceremony to dedicate the Jim Easton Global Connection Classroom.
Outside the newly-completed classroom, UCLA Chancellor Gene Block welcomed attendees, giving gratitude to Jim Easton for his generosity across the UCLA campus. UCLA Anderson Dean Judy Olian thanked Easton for being a visionary philanthropist who has donated significantly to UCLA Anderson.
"The Jim Easton Global Connection Classroom addresses the need for a top tier management school to provide its students with a technologically-advanced learning environment," said Olian. "This classroom connects the global UCLA Anderson community from anywhere in the world to our campus."
The state-of-the-art classroom offers faculty and students an immersive multimedia teaching and learning environment, with three high-definition projectors for dual front and rear projection, two high-definition LCD displays, lecture capture technology, audio/video conferencing (with audience microphones), wired network access and power at every seat, and a wireless network optimized for the classroom.
The custom-built podium is equipped with a networked computer, Blu-ray DVD and VHS playback, an interactive pen display for content presentation and markup, and an electronic document camera capable of displaying both two and three dimensional objects. The classroom's features are controllable via a user-friendly touch screen at the podium or from a separate control room, which is equipped with a multi-image display for real time classroom monitoring. These technology enhancements enable students and faculty to connect in real-time with other students, partners and executives from across the globe.
After the dedication ceremony, attendees received a special demonstration of the classroom's technology features presented by UCLA Anderson computing services representatives Gabriel Ruiz and Aura Lippincott.
