UCLA Anderson Receives Generous Donation from Bernard ('49) and Judy Briskin

Alumni Plaza Renamed the Judy & Bernard Briskin Family Plaza

LOS ANGELES (April 13, 2016) Bernard (Bernie) Briskin ('49), a UCLA graduate, and his wife, Judy, have made a generous donation to UCLA Anderson School of Management. To commemorate the Briskins’ generosity, Alumni Plaza at UCLA Anderson has been renamed the Judy & Bernard Briskin Family Plaza.

The Briskins’ gift establishes the Judy and Bernard Briskin Marketing Specialization Program Fund, an endowment that provides fellowships to Anderson students specializing in marketing, the Briskin Marketing Student of the Year award in the MBA and fully employed MBA programs, and supports Briskin Distinguished Visitors who are marketing field leaders. The gift also enhances UCLA Anderson's marketing curriculum, academic research, and interface with the practicing marketing profession.

"Anderson is privileged to enjoy the Briskins’ most generous support," said UCLA Anderson Dean Judy Olian. "Judy and Bernie are involved all over the Los Angeles community, supporting an array of programs and institutions that emphasize health and medicine, as well as education, Jewish history and culture. We are grateful that their philanthropy has been directed now toward UCLA Anderson students and faculty, enriching what is already one of the best marketing programs in the country."

The Briskins are well-known philanthropists. Through their family foundation they have supported an array of programs and institutions. They have made charitable contributions to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center where they received the Humanitarian Award in 2015, Temple Israel of Hollywood, the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles, the Jewish Home and the Venice Family Clinic. They most recently launched the Judy and Bernard Briskin Center for Multiple Myeloma Research at City of Hope.

“We are delighted for this opportunity to be involved and to support the continued levels of excellence that Anderson offers,” says Bernie Briskin. “Its position among the leading business schools in the world is impressive. We have followed the growth and success of the university with keen interest. The economic health of our country depends on future leaders in business. We want to ensure that these students have the best possible chance to make a difference.”

Mr. Briskin is the former president, chairman and CEO of Arden Group Inc. He served as chairman, president and CEO of AMG Holdings, Inc., an investment holding company that includes Arden-Mayfair, Mayfair Realty and Gelson’s Markets. He started his business career as assistant to Norton Simon, American industrialist and philanthropist.

Mr. Briskin earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from UCLA in 1949. Mrs. Briskin, who also attended UCLA, is active in a variety of community and philanthropic activities, having served as president of Cedars –Sinai Woman’s Guild, the legendary support group founded by Bernard’s mother, Sara.
