UCLA Anderson Launches EDGE Program to Teach Business Basics to Undergraduates and Recent College Graduates
Four-week summer program targets non-business majors, improves employment prospects
LOS ANGELES - For the first time, UCLA Anderson School of Management is offering undergraduates and recent college graduates the opportunity to study with its world-class faculty as part of the EDGE program. The intensive, four-week summer program is tailored for non-business majors and offers a basic understanding of business literacy, leadership, and communication.
"Los Angeles is the ideal place to experience business and leadership. It's a global trading hub where technology, content, and media converge, and home to a new wave of innovative startups in Silicon Beach," said Judy Olian, Dean of UCLA Anderson School of Management. "EDGE program participants will be learning from the same professors who teach our MBA students, giving them direct access to fantastic teachers and leading industry experts, providing them the tools to jumpstart their careers."
The inaugural, summer 2013 EDGE program is open to 72 students and will feature guest speakers, networking receptions, incubator tours, and career coaching sessions. The curriculum will cover key topics, such as team decision making, financial analysis and investments, branding and social media, using big data, and business writing.
"Many undergraduates, especially non-business majors, lack a basic understanding of the business world, and that puts them at a disadvantage in today's recovering job market," said Kelly Bean, assistant dean of Executive Education at UCLA Anderson. "EDGE enhances their business acumen and management vocabulary, which makes them more valuable to employers and helps improve their job prospects."
The program takes place from July 8 to August 2, 2013, and the application deadline is May 15. Scholarships are available for eight EDGE participants. For more information, email EDGE@Anderson.UCLA.edu or visit http://www.anderson.ucla.edu/x48316.xml.
