UCLA Anderson to Host Inaugural Investing Conference
Forum is the school's first student initiative to focus on investment management
LOS ANGELES -- UCLA Anderson School of Management is hosting its first Investing Conference on Feb. 10, 2012. The event is a student initiative designed to connect UCLA Anderson students, faculty, alumni and investment management professionals.
The inaugural event, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by Kenneth Broad ('94), the Laurence and Lori Fink Center for Finance and Investments, the Investment Finance Association and the Anderson Investment Association.
"The UCLA Anderson Investing Conference provides an opportunity to engage with and gain insight into the perspectives of some of the most innovative thinkers in the investment management industry," said Francis Quimby, AIA president. "It gives participants access to a number of Southern California's most recognized and well respected professionals who have made significant contributions and achievements in the investment management industry."
The one-day event, which runs between 8:00 am and 3:00 pm in Korn Hall, will feature keynote speaker, Howard Marks, Chairman of Oaktree Capital Management, a leading global investment management firm focused on alternative investments.
James Ware, Founder of Focus Consulting Group, author and international speaker on investment leadership, culture and building high performing teams, will kick off the forum, which will be comprised of a panel discussion and a fireside chat.
The panel discussion, "Beating the Benchmark: Active Management and Efficient Markets," will be moderated by Drew Zager, Managing Director of Private Wealth Management at Morgan Stanley. The panelists will include: Chris Brightman: Research Affiliates, Director & Head of Investment Management; J. David Carpenter: Capital Group, Investment Analyst; and George Letteney: UCLA Investment Company, Interim President & Chief Investment Officer.
C. Daniel Ewell, Chairman of Western Region Investment Banking at Morgan Stanley, will moderate the fireside chat, "Perspectives on Public and Private Market Investing in Today's Economy," with participants Steven Romick, Managing Partner of First Pacific Advisors, and Jonathan Sokoloff, Managing Partner at Leonard Green & Partners.
