Brian Farrell ('78) To Address New Graduates at UCLA Anderson 2009 Executive MBA Commencement
Farrell is president and CEO of THQ Inc.
LOS ANGELES -- UCLA Anderson School of Management today announced that Brian Farrell ('78), president and CEO of THQ Inc. will address this year's Executive MBA (EMBA) graduates on Saturday August 1, 2009 at 5:00 pm. The ceremony will take place in Royce Hall on the UCLA campus.
"We're privileged that Brian Farrell has been so engaged in leadership roles at UCLA Anderson, and that he is deeply committed to community causes," said Dean Judy Olian. "He brings to us a special perspective on the world of technology convergence, and on the global challenges and opportunities involved in leading a creative software company."
THQ Inc. is a leading interactive entertainment software publisher. Under Farrell's leadership, THQ reported revenues of more than $800 million in its fiscal year ending March 31, 2009. Since Farrell became CEO in 1995, THQ's global marketing and sales force has grown to serve more than 75 countries worldwide with offices located throughout North America, Europe and Asia. His tenure at THQ also includes the expansion of the Company's internal development network, both from organic growth and several strategic studio acquisitions. THQ also holds a non-controlling interest in wrestling game developer Yuke's Co. Ltd. of Japan.
Some of THQ's most popular videogames include internally created franchises MX vs. ATV™, Red Faction® and Saints Row®. The company also publishes games based on popular licensed brands such as World Wrestling Entertainment® (WWE®), Games Workshop (Warhammer® 40,000™), Ultimate Fighting Championship® (UFC®), Marvel Entertainment, DreamWorks Animation, Nickelodeon® and Disney·Pixar.
Farrell served as chairman of the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), the industry's trade association and was co-chairman of the ESA's charitable foundation, which has raised over $7 million for children's charities. Farrell has served as chairman of the Price Center for Entrepreneurial Studies at UCLA Anderson, and is a member of the Board of Visitors of the school, as well.
Farrell joined THQ in April 1991, as vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer, and was appointed to his current position in January 1995. Prior to joining THQ, he was vice president and chief financial officer of Hotel Investors Trust, a New York Stock Exchange company. Previously, he was employed by Deloitte & Touche LLP. Farrell holds a bachelor's degree from Stanford University in addition to his MBA from UCLA Anderson School of Management.
