UCLA Anderson Remembers Carl Peter Odebjer (MBA '07)
Known for his giving spirit, love of the outdoors and zest for life
LOS ANGELES -- UCLA Anderson MBA student Carl Peter Odebjer, known as Peter, was killed in a motorcycle accident on May 30. He was 32 years old.
Peter was extraordinarily accomplished, with an MS in Electrical Engineering from the Lund Institute of Technology in Sweden. He maintained a commercial pilot's license, was an avid sailor, cyclist and runner, and lived life to the fullest. He was fluent in four languages and was learning Mandarin and Spanish. He was also especially giving.
From December 2004 through June 2005, Peter volunteered for Doctors Without Borders in Sudan where he served in the El Fasher region in Darfur. He supervised a team that was responsible for providing logistical support to employees and volunteers. Peter's colleagues describe him as a person with the highest integrity, and as a great team player and mediator.
He is survived by his parents Christer and Ann-Charlotte who reside in Sweden, his long time girl-friend Anna, an older brother Kristian (MBA '04) who was the inspiration for Peter to come to Anderson, his younger sister, Wiveka, younger brother, Tobias, his sister-in-law Mimi and niece Selma. He leaves behind many friends and colleagues at UCLA Anderson, in the United States and Sweden, and throughout the world, whose lives he touched in innumerable ways.
Peter had completed the requirements for his MBA degree and accepted a position with Nestle. His achievements will be honored alongside his classmates and he will be granted his MBA degree at commencement on June 15, 2007.
Dean Judy Olian has communicated with Peter's family and they are most touched by the outpouring of affection for Peter, and the support they have received. Family members attended Commencement ceremonies to accept his degree. A Memorial Event and Memorial Bike Ride were organized jointly by the UCLA Anderson administration and the student leadership.
Many members of the Anderson community have expressed a desire to honor Peter's memory. In response, the family has requested that a scholarship fund be established at UCLA Anderson. Donations can be made to the Peter Odebjer Fund at UCLA Anderson, in care of Lindsay Newlove. Please make checks payable to "UCLA Foundation" with Peter's name in the notes line.
