While a Riordan fellow, I learned the importance of relationships and better understood that my journey from a modest background int an arena of high acheivement was not unique but shared by many. This perspective and shared sense of community in sacrifice has allowed the presence of mind to look closer at all applicants and learn to recognize potential in what may be considered non-traditional places
