JESSICA ENG

Southern California Edison

JESSICA ENG is a graduate of the full-time MBA Class of 2018. Prior to joining the program, she worked for Deloitte & Touche LLP in Los Angeles as a senior consultant in its risk advisory practice. Through her summer internship with Southern California Edison, Eng accepted a full-time offer to join the company in its energy contracts group after graduation. Her long-term aspirations are to work in the international energy scene focused on emerging and/or clean technologies.

Eng received a dual B.S. degree in environmental economics and policy, and business administration from UC Berkeley. It was during orientation at UCLA Anderson that she attended the CGM presentation and became interested in the specialization and decided that its requirements would help better connect her education with her work experience. During her two years in the full-time MBA program, she enrolled in challenging elective courses that included “International Financial Markets,” “Global Macroeconomy,” “Global Supply Chain Management” and “Spanish Language and Culture for Business II,” and met and teamed up with many international classmates. Eng also attended many CGM speaker events featuring ambassadors, social entrepreneurs and global executives.

Her self-sourced AMR field study project involved developing a human capital strategy for a South Korean gaming startup that creates mobile apps for hardcore gamers in Asia. During the six-month project, she traveled to Seoul and conducted extensive primary research to better understand best practices of motivating and retaining game developers. She also visited Silicon Valley and Silicon Beach and prepared a comparative analysis between U.S. and Korean practices. Eng feels that the global management specialization was one of her best decisions at UCLA Anderson, as it provided her with the resources to better understand business and management issues in a global context, expand her network, improve her Spanish and, most important, fulfill her personal goal of broadening her horizons.
