Driving Change with Social Impact Investor Bobby Turner

K. Robert (Bobby) TurnerOn October 20, K. Robert (Bobby) Turner captivated a room of UCLA Anderson students with a candid conversation about the convergence of profits and purpose. The principal and CEO of Turner Impact Capital LLC, Bobby considers himself a “recovering capitalist and philanthropist,” frankly admitting that he started his career with the singular desire to make money. After finding success as a business executive, he began donating to philanthropic organizations, but eventually became passionate about curing issues by helping to define the “triple bottom line” investment movement. He is "dedicating his professional career to providing not only sound financial financial returns for his investors, but also education, safety and sustainable options for communities around the U.S." Read more.

Faculty Insights | Choose Time or Money for Greater Happiness?

What Should You Choose: Time or Money? For a research project studying happiness, UCLA Anderson’s Assistant Professor Hal Hershfeld and Associate Professor Cassie Mogilner Holmes asked more than 4,000 Americans from different backgrounds:

If given the choice between more time or money, which would you pick?

They found that sixty-four percent of the 4,415 people they surveyed chose money. However, the respondents who chose time reported on average statistically higher levels of happiness and satisfaction with life. "The value individuals place on these resources relative to each other is predictive of happiness." If you chose money, don't worry! Learn more about the study and find out if a group of respondents, given the opportunity to make the choice again, made a different choice a year later.
