2011 Award Dinner


John Wooden Global Leadership Award Dinner

Peter V. Ueberroth will receive the 2011 John Wooden Global Leadership Award at a dinner on Monday, May 23 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. The event will be moderated by Emmy Award-winning sportscaster Al Michaels and will feature an intriguing presentation on Coach John Wooden's Pyramid of Success led by prominent community leaders and Mr. Ueberroth. Tables and individual seats are available.

Proceeds from the event will fund John Wooden Global Leadership Student Fellowships. This year's recipients are Russell Altenburg, MBA class of 2012 and Valerie Sun, FEMBA class of 2013.

Peter Ueberroth

Peter V. Ueberroth

Peter V. Ueberroth is managing director of Contrarian Group, an investment and management company. He is also an owner and co-chairman of the Pebble Beach Company.

From 1980 to 1984, Peter was president of the Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee, the organization responsible for staging the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games, the first privately financed Games, resulting in a surplus of $238 million, that continues to support youth and amateur-related sports programs throughout the United States. more >

 


John Wooden

John Wooden

John Robert Wooden was born in Martinsville, Indiana on October 14th, 1910. While attending high school in Martinsville he won All-State prep honors in basketball three times while leading them to the State title game his sophomore, junior, and senior seasons. In 1927, his high school team won the State title.

Next, he attended Purdue University and won varsity letters in both basketball and baseball. Wooden won All-America honors as a player for Purdue his sophomore, junior, and senior seasons. more >

Al Michaels

Al Michaels, one of the most renowned sports broadcasters of all time, and the commentator called "TV's best play-by-play announcer" by the Associated Press, calls play-by-play for "NBC Sunday Night Football" alongside game analyst John Madden.
