Susan Carey is a reporter in the Chicago bureau of The Wall Street Journal. She covers the airline industry.
In December 1981, Ms. Carey joined the Journal's Pittsburgh bureau as a reporter and became a reporter for The Wall Street Journal Europe in Brussels in February 1985. She moved to The Asian Wall Street Journal as a Hong Kong based reporter in February 1991 and began reporting from Kuala Lumpur in April 1992. While at the European and Asian Journals, she covered airlines and travel.
Ms. Carey returned to the domestic Journal in May 1993 as deputy bureau chief in Chicago. She returned to full-time reporting in February 1996.
Prior to joining the Journal, Ms. Carey was a reporter with the Arizona Republic in Phoenix.
In 1999, Ms. Carey received a first place award from the American Association of Sunday & Feature Writers in the feature writing category for her April 28, 1999, page-one article, “Frozen Northwest.” For the same article she also won the Best Feature Writing award in 1999 from the Deadline Club of the New York City Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.
Ms. Carey graduated from Michigan State University with a bachelor's degree in advertising.
