Scott Herhold is the tech stock columnist for the San Jose Mercury News, where his column, known as Stocks.comment, runs on Mondays and Thursdays. Herhold defies most notions of job-hopping in Silicon Valley: He joined the newspaper in 1977, and has covered a parade of beats: City Hall, night cops, general assignment, downtown, the courts, and county government. He's also done a stint as an assistant city editor and political columnist. He's been covering business since 1996, first as the venture capital reporter and now as a stocks columnist.
Herhold is a 1971 graduate of Yale, where he got his journalistic start on the Yale Daily News. Before coming to the Mercury News, he worked briefly for the Bloomington (Ill.) Pantagraph and the Pasadena (Ca.) Star-News. He is married and the father of four children. He lives in San Jose.
