Michelle Miller is a New York-based CBS News correspondent. Previously, she was a freelance anchor for UP TO THE MINUTE, CBS News’ overnight weekday news program, and a freelance correspondent for the CBS EVENING NEWS weekend editions since 2003. Miller also was a reporter and anchor for “BET Nightly News,” where she conducted interviews with Sean “P. Diddy” Combs and the Rev. Al Sharpton, among others.
Before that, she served as a reporter and anchor for WWL-TV, the CBS affiliate in New Orleans (1994-2003). Miller also taught communications and broadcast journalism classes at Dillard University in New Orleans (1998-2001). She was a reporter and weekend anchor for WIS-TV Columbia, S.C. (1993-94). Miller held several positions at the Orange County Newschannel (1990-93) in Santa Ana, Calif.: reporter, weekend assignment editor, producer and associate producer.
She began her journalism career as a staff writer for the Santa Bay and Valley editions of the Los Angeles Times (1989-90). She also interned at ABC News’ “Nightline” and the Minneapolis Star Tribune (1988) during college. Miller received an Edward R. Murrow Award in 1998 and the Woman of the Year Award from the National Sports Foundation. She also received the National Association of Black Journalists Award of Excellence in 1997.
She was born in Los Angeles. Miller was graduated from Howard University in 1989 with a degree in journalism and from the University of New Orleans in 1997 with a master’s degree in urban studies. She lives in New York.
