Matthew D. Richtel joined The New York Times in January 2000 as a technology reporter in the San Francisco bureau, most recently covering telecommunications. Previously, Mr. Richtel was a freelance writer for various media outlets, including The New York Times and CyberTimes, the online edition of The New York Times.
Mr. Richtel is the author of “Hooked,” a novel centered on technology and published on June 1, 2007. He also writes the syndicated daily comic strip “Rudy Park.” The strip, launched in 2001, appears in newspapers around the country, including the Chicago Sun Times, Orange County Register and the Rocky Mountain News.
Born in Los Angeles, Calif., Mr. Richtel grew up in Boulder, Colo. He received a B.A. degree in rhetoric from the University of California at Berkeley in 1989 and an M.S. degree in journalism from Columbia University in 1990.
Mr. Richtel enjoys tennis, basketball, tutoring and cartooning. He is married and lives in San Francisco.
