John Gittelsohn is a business and investigations reporter at the Orange County Register, where he has worked since 1995. He previously held reporting jobs at the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, USA Today and the Burlington Free Press in Vermont. He worked as a freelance reporter in Seoul, South Korea, from 1987 to 1990 and in Jakarta, Indonesia, in 1983. He earned his bachelor's degree at Stanford University in 1980, a master's in journalism at Columbia University in 1983 and held a year-long fellowship in Asian studies for journalists at the University of Hawaii in 1986-87. He won a SABEW Best in Business award in 2009, the California Journalism Award for best daily coverage in 2008 and 2006 and awards from the Education Writers Association in 2000 and 1999. He is married to Deborah Belgum, a journalist. They live in Long Beach, CA.
