Ian McDonald is a New York-based reporter covering mutual funds and insurance for The Wall Street Journal.
Mr. McDonald joined Dow Jones & Company in 2002 as a reporter covering the mutual-fund industry for the Online Journal. While he was there, he wrote the “Fund Fiend” and “Seven Questions” columns, in addition to general reporting on the industry. Prior to joining the Online Journal, Mr. McDonald was a mutual-fund reporter and columnist at TheStreet.com. He also worked as a marketer in the fund business for several years in Boston.
In 2001, Mr. McDonald was named to The Journalist and Financial Reporter’s list of 30 Top Journalists Under 30. In 2000, he won the New York State Society of CPAs Award for Excellence in Financial Journalism in 2000.
Mr. McDonald passed the exams for the Series 7 and Series 6 licenses, required of financial professionals, and is a candidate for the Chartered Financial Analyst designation. A native of Brewster, Mass., Mr. McDonald earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Bates College in Lewiston, Maine.
