George Mitchell

George Mitchell is a television photojournalist with WATE TV in Knoxville, Tennessee.  Over his 15-year career, he has worked on several award-winning stories.  In one series picked up nationally, he shot and edited the Elian Gonzalez story for WFOR TV in Miami.  And in an investigative series, he shot and edited stories that helped find housing for a man with mental retardation, after Tennessee officials claimed the man wasn’t eligible. 

George holds a two-year degree in broadcast journalism from Princeton Technical Institute in Knoxville, Tennessee.  Prior to coming to WATE TV, George worked in the Orlando, Houston and Miami television markets.

George’s awards include an Emmy Award, a Murrow Award, SPJ’s Green Eyeshade Award, seven SPJ Awards, a Media Excellence Award, an Associated Press Award, two Press Club of Houston Awards, an international nomination for films and videos on Japan, and two Emmy nominations.
