Fred Schulte is investigative editor at the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, where he has won many awards including the George Polk Award, IRE Award and the Gerald Loeb Award. He has been a Pulitzer Prize finalist three times: in 1987 for his reporting on excessive deaths in Veterans Administration hospitals, in 1996 for reporting on Florida HMO health plans for the poor and in 1999 for uncovering deaths resulting from cosmetic surgery. He is the author of Fleeced! Telemarketing Ripoffs and How to Avoid Them. Schulte was a 1997 Alicia Patterson Foundation Fellow.
