Eric Eyre

Eric Eyre, 37, joined the Charleston (W.Va.) Gazette as a staff writer in 1998. Since then, he has received 14 national awards, including the National Headliners Award and Fred M. Hechinger Grand Prize in Education Reporting from the Education Writers Association this year. He and colleague Scott Finn also were finalists in this year's IRE awards. Most recently, Eyre received a six-month Journalism Fellowship in Child and Family Policy at the University of Maryland. He graduated from Loyola University in New Orleans and received a master's degree in journalism from the University of South Florida while on a St. Petersburg Times/Poynter Fund Fellowship. Eyre is a native of Broad Axe, Pa.
