Darrell Preston, a member of Bloomberg News’ state and municipal government team in the Dallas bureau, reports on municipal bonds, public finance and politics in Texas and surrounding states. A University of Kansas graduate, Preston started his journalism career at the Hays (Kansas) Daily News and spent a decade reporting at weekly business journals in Wichita, Kansas, and Dallas. Preston joined the Bond Buyer in 1995 as bureau chief and went on to become brokers and dealers editor before moving to Bloomberg in November 2000. Preston has won four Katie Awards while working for Bloomberg. He also won the Society of Business Writers and Editors award for enterprise and the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants award, in 2006 and 2007, for showing how Wall Street overcharges taxpayers in bond deals. In 2008 the “Insurance Hoax” was honored by the Society of Business Writers and Editors and the Business Journalist of the Year sponsored by the London-based World Leadership Forum. He has a daughter and lives in Dallas.
