Bill Vlasic is an award-winning business reporter for The Detroit News specializing in coverage of the automotive industry. He has worked in Detroit since 1987 for The News and as a correspondent for BusinessWeek magazine. Vlasic is a two-time winner of the Golden Wheel Award recognizing excellence in automotive journalism, Associated Press awards for news reporting and investigative journalism, and Best of Gannett awards for business writing.

He previously covered business topics for Gannett Suburban Newspapers in White Plains, NY, from 1982 to 1987, and general news and politics at Citizen Group Publications in Brookline, Mass., from 1977 to 1981.

Vlasic is also the co-author of the best-selling nonfiction book, "Taken For A Ride: How Daimler-Benz Drove Off With Chrysler," published in 2000 by William Morrow & Co. and in paperback by Harper Business in 2001. The book, winner of the Great Lakes Bookseller’s Association non-fiction award, made the best-seller lists of BusinessWeek magazine, The Wall Street Journal and the Detroit Free Press.

Vlasic was born in Detroit, Michigan. He is a graduate of Boston University and the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. He lives in Birmingham, Michigan.
