Bethany McLean grew up in Hibbing, Minnesota and then attended Williams College, where she graduated with a degree in math and English in 1992. McLean spent the next three years working at Goldman Sachs as an analyst in the investment banking department. In 1995, she joined Fortune as a reporter.
